' NOTES FROM THE RIVERS. The Selwyn River continues to attract large numbers of fishermen daily, and good baskets of trout have been caught. The Wainmkariri is not in good fishing order, tlie aroTth-westerly nature «f tb= weather tending to -tho discolouration- of the water. On Saturday and Sunday kirg-3 numbers cf ii.uglers were , present in the lower reach-sis of th ; e"' Selwyn, and, as far as can be learned, they had good spoijt. As samples of the baskets ' obtained, it nw;y bs mentioned that for two days' fishing (Saturday and Sunday) ;•„ party of three got 27 fish; another party cf four gal 57 fish for three days' tkhing ; and on Sunday night one angler got 11 fish. The nVn were all taken with the bully, and were of gooil j>ize. They were also in much bs-tter condition tharn those caught in the earlier pare of the season. Ths nvglrt fiihing has been somewhat slow in the river lately, owing to the bright moonlight. On cloudy nights and alter ike mocn sets, however, the lish rkc freely.
