« A strong point (says the "Post") was made by dp Governor in. his speech at t&e annual "Weetitfg of tfib Society for the Pre- ; vent-ion of Cruelty -to Animals «t Welling- I ton, when he said that if public opinion were educated to recognise that it did not pay to work aged and decrepit horses^ much difficulty' would b& spared lo many dumb animals. Many people, said Ms Excellency, did I'.'.ot seem to consider that an old or injured horse co«t <as much to seed and shoe a-s one lhat vas sound; in fact, such people were spending more money in proportion to tho return than if they »\vere working aji animal which was in good condition. H6' thought that- if that fact were brought prominently before the people who used aged and decrepit liorsts, it would have a good effect.
