If New Zealand wants an independent mail service, the Vancouver route appears to offer the best prospects of success. That line would have to be maintained at a modern, highclass standard. vSuch a service, there is" reason to believe, would command a subsi\ly from Canada, whilst the Imperial authorities might do seme thing 1 in the same direction to establish an nil-British mail line via tha Pacific with Australasia;
