— «. — . METROPOLITAN MEETING. The Camerbury Jockey Club will begin its four-day Metropolitan Meeting a fortnight hence. The further payments received ior the New Zealand Cup, which constitutes the principal attraction on the ih-i'G day of the gathering, compare favourably with tho?e received from • last veaVs racer- and as no one horse stands out. prominently, the race at prei'^nt promises to provide an interesting contest. Fulm-en has already stai'ted three limes in the race, finishing fourth on one occasion, .st^ond! on another., and dividing the stake with Idaal last year, and his ability to stay should materially assist him 'to again run prominently. Palaver, Canteen, Okoavi, Melwood, Fashion and Kahuwai have all secured races this season, whilsifc Battleaxe has run well, though unsuccessfully. At the moment Fulmen would appear to possess a chance second to none, and if Battleaxe' is preferred) to Okoari he ought to run well forward. Only four Riccarton-trained horses remain in the contest, Cameo having been withdrawn. Military has been supported 1 by many, but so far neither Strathnairn, Glenaladale nor Djin Djin have this season given any indication that they might succeed, whilst Pamp-r-ro is comparatively neglected. The Stewards 1 ' Handicap shows that eighteen fa^fc -horses have had) their engagements continued, but fit present it would not be politic ; to attempt a selection.
