A SWEETHEART'S QUARREL
SEQUEL TO " KISS-IX-TIIE RING." A domestic servant named Maud HeAvton was charged at Spelthorne, England, with j attempting to drown herself in a disused gravel-pit at Ashford. She was found up to her shoulders in water, and was heard to exclaim, " Good-bye, mother !" and also to say that her sweetheart had broken her heart. The young couplo had a "tiff during a I gams of "'kiss-in-thp-ring' 1 at. a fete. The I girl's sweetheart objected to her being j kissed by a stranger, whereupon she told j him that she was " going home," by which she meant, it appears, that she should take her life. As the girl had attempted to commit suicicla before, she was remanded.
