PROTECTION OF HUSBANDS.
FORMATION OF A SOCIETY.
A meeting, was held in London recently for the purpose of forming a society for the " protection of husbands against drunken wives."
Mr Thomas 'Ryan presided, -and, in addressing the eighteen men who were present, said it was considered by the promoters of the movement that something should 'be'done^to get protection from habit-; uaEy drunkem wives' who pawned 1 "the, household, goods, 'or sold- them'; to get money, for drink, neglected .their children, and made the .household U(e /a, misery. •■
A resolution' was. moved and carried, that to be called" " The Society for the Protection,.' of Husbands ' of " Drunken Wives," should fee established:
One speaker said he had walked miles to attend tie meeting, and gave a pitiful account of his home life and the neglected state of his three daughters. At that moment he was in possession of a hundred pawiv-tibkets respecting things his.; wife had pawned,- and though; respectably; dressed,, he turned his coat sleeve and showed that he had no shirt on. His wife had pawned it, and he had left her drunk in bed on leaving home to attend the meeting. 'Resolutions were passed calling on the Bishop of .Winchester to add clauses to his Bill for the Protection of Hsubands, and appointing a secretary to- the new- society.
