RIOT IN BARRACKS.

BAYONETS 4ND BALL CART-

RIDGE.

DUBLIN FUSILIERS

ARRESTED.

A serious affray o&ufned recently at Shorncliffe Camp, Kent.

Through, some imagined grievance the Dublin Fusiliers, who muiter about fifty strong and are located in the Risborough Barracks, which' is largely built of corrugated iron, commenced a disturbance and began to "wreck one of the rooms. The guard was called out- and Avhilst in the act of arresting some of the Dublins, shots were fired at the guard. The barracks were aroused; the Royal. Fusiliers and other guards had to be reinforced and upon their advancing upon the Risborough Camp were met by bayonet and a ball cartridge volley. Two of the guard were seriously injured by bayonet thrusts and were at once token to* the hospital. The tumult continued for over two hours, in the course of which time a. whole company of men with fixed bayonets were paraded. Dragoons were galloping abouo and officers were aroused from all parts.

Latterly there has been great friction between the Dublins and Royal Fusiliers, owing, it is said, to a recent order that the casi'fceen of the latter is "out of bounds" to all battalions save their own, while every other canteen is open to all. Black eyes were at a ddscount in camp, and not a few 'men bore traces of rough usage. As a precaution against a repetition of. this disgraceful affair, the guards' hay c been strengthened! A feeling .bordering on consternation' exists at Shorncliffe Camp owing to tha affray between soldiers. ;, s£. the West Kent Regimen^ and Dublin* iJßsiiiers. The row, if Is 'now. 'statedi originated in a public: house, in Sandgate/ but this small feud' subsided. .At midnight, however, a oiumbzr of men belonging to the Dublin Fusiliers attacked a barrack-room in which. a number of men of the Dublin Fusiliers and West Kent Regiment were" sleeping. Ths assailants were in search of a man.' whom they alleged provoked the previous row. in Sandgate. As he could not be foundy. the i Fusiliers, it is alleged, pro«eed>ed> to smash the window-frames and 1 Tfo fire volleys of. baill and blank ammunition into tihe room.
