CONCILIATION BOARD.
THE FROZEN MEAT INDUSTRY.
A sitting of the Conciliation Board will be held in Ghristchurch nesfc Monday to hear the case cited against- ithe two meat companies in Christchurch by the Canterbury Freezers Industrial Union of Workers. The statement of claim asks that therates of pay shall be as follows: — Is 3d per hour between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ; Is 9d before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m. Casual labour Is 6d between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. and 2s before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m., and the head storemen Is 6d — cween, 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., and 2s before 8 a.m. and after 5 p.m., with double time for Sundays and certain holidays. The statement also asks that no freezers should be required to work outside at a lower rate of .pay while work is going on in the chambers; that no casual labour should be employed when permanent men are not working eight hours per day ; that no sub-con-tracting should be allowed ; that fifteen minutes' spell should be allowed every two" hour's on pay ; gloves to oe supplied oy employers ;" that a suitable dressing-room should also be supplied for freezers, and that preference of employment should be given to members of the Union.
