AUCKLAND, May 2,

The comet was seen at six o'clock last evening by Mr Stevenson, F.'A.A.S. Owing to the low altitude telescopic observations cannot be made.

The comet was seen, yesterday evening from the e.s. Tarawera when the steamer was in- Cook Strait, on her run from Wellington to Lyttelton. It was first noticed at 6.20 p.m., when it was setting in the west, and it disappeared below the horizon about three-quarters of an hour after it was sighted.
