At the meeting of the North Canterbury Board of .Education this morning, letters were read from the Department of Education asking ih© Board to do-operate with School Committees in giving the school children an opportunity of taking part in the welcome •to tfheir Royal Highnesses, also stating tihat Education Boards would be included in the Bill indemnifying local bodies for expenditure incurred', and also suggesting the assembling of children^ to receive the message announcing thewrrival of the Duke and' Duchess of Cornwall. A letter was read (from the Children's Committee in connection with the Royal visit, stating that the sum granted by the committee of *he Executive was inadequate for the requirements, and! the committee requested that the Board should make some allowance for the. provision of refreshments. Th€ Chairman said he had interviewed the Railway authorities, and they 'had promised that trucks used on the; excursion train would be Qovcred, but it was not oertain as lo what, d!ay the Department would convey the children to Ch-ristchurch. Mr Buddo- snoved that the Chairman ahd the Secretary should be empowered to 'make a grant of a sum up to £7O ; toij tie Children's Committee to assist tho co^ranittee in entertaining the children.
