A BREACH OF PROMISE CASE.

At Birmingham Assizes Mr Justice Phillimore heard an action for breach of promise, brought by Miss AKce Harley, daughter of « farmer at Heath Hayes, near Cannock, against; William Jesse Twamley, a gentleman engaged in the manufacture of terra-cottia near. Hednesford.

It was stated by the lady's counsel that after the engagement matters went smoothly until a quarrel arose as to the defendant being a vegetarian and the lady preferring ordinary food. The tiff lasted only a fortnight, and then the parties became reengaged. Defendant presented his sweetheart with a diamond engagement-ring and a dressing case, on which he had placed the initials "A.T.," Which would have been the plaintiff's initials if «he ha-d becom© Mrs Twamley.

Then another quarrel arose and defendant wrote to the effect that since the dispute "about the wretched vegetables" (as counsel put it) ho had entertained no love for her. He admitted having fallen in love with another and it was stated that he had' since married.
