THE DOG SAVED HER LIFE.

A WOMAN ATTACKED BY A

JEALOUS LOVER.

SAVED IKOM DEATH.

Mrs Bunker, the cook of the Lion's Head Tavern at Leeds, England, was attacked on Feb. 28 by a man named Roth, who was in love with her, and who entrapped her into a lonely room. As soon as he had succeeded in hning Mrs Bunker into the apartment, he drew a razor* and attempted to cut her throat, exclaiming at the same time that he was tired of her carryings on. Mrs Bunker saw at once that the man was insane with jealousy, and struggled very hard to free herself.

Then suddenly a black dog, belonging to the hotel, and which had been lying asleep under the couch unbeknown to anybody, sprang upon Roth and caught him by the coat sleeve, close to the wrist. This compelled the man to make an attempt to shake the animal off, and) while so doing he necessarily released his hold upon the woman, who found strength to call for help. x

Roth, however, succeeded in releasing himself from the dog, and once more rushed at the woman, razor in hand. At the moment : he was about to strike her the dog leaped between him and the woman, and seized him by the throat. Meanwhile, the noise of the struggle had been heard outside 1 , and the landlady opened the door and dragged Mrs Bunker from the room, closing the door behind her, thus shutting in. the man with the dog. When a few minutes later the police broke into the room they .found Roth on, the floor with his throat cut, ready to> expire at any mo; meat. The dog was lying on the villain's chest and watching over him. It is presumed that the man made a-way with himself immediately after he found that hia intended victim had! escaped.
