HUTT RACECOURSE, Jan. 22., Boreas and Ideal have been scratched for the Wellington Cup. - . There is fine weather with a nice cool breeze for the opening day of the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting. The attendance is large and . promises to be a record for the club. The following are results of the racing:— ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP of 150 sovs; one mile— Melwood, 7^t 12lb, 1; Phooka-, 7st 7lb, 2; Magnificent, 7st 21b, 3. Blazer wasscratched. Melwood was first ; away and led for a couple of furlongs, when he gave way to Spider, who carried on the running io the i turn. Here Melwood came .again and won easily /by a length and a half. Prior to 1890 the distance was two miles. WELLESLEY STAKES of 300 sovs; for two-year-olds; four furlongs — Menschikoff, Bst 7ib, 1 ; Indian Queen, Sst 2lb, 2 ; Vindwhistle, Bst 21b, 3. Meteor also started. Menschikoff led all the way and won by six lengths. Time — 49sec. Dividend— _l 9s. PRESIDENT'S HANDICAP of 150 sovs; one mile and a furlong — Cameo, 7st 9lb, 1; Queen's Guard, 6st 81b, 2 ; Strathnairn, 9st, 3. Blazer and Laurestina were scratched. Strathnairn led to the turn, where Cameo came with a strong run and won by a 'length. Time— lmin 56 3-ssec. Dividend— £3 14s.
