STABBING AFFRAY AT RICHMOND.

— _ — + THE ACCUSED REMANDED. About midnight last nicrht a stabbing affray took place at Richmond, when a man named Daniel Buckett "was stabbed in the chesb. It appears that Dr Orchard was called about midnignt to Attend to a man named Buckett, and on anival at the house in Richmond found Buckett suffering from a knife-wound in the chest, near the neck. Had the wound been a little lower or higher the wounded man must have bled to death internally. Daniel Buckett, the wxjjmded- man, states that he and a man named Charles Austin were going home from the Star and Garter Hotel abortb 11.30 p.m. yesterday and at the corner of Victoria and Perth Streets they overtook a man named Caleb James Lee, who was making a great noise, and was evidently drunk. There were two men with Lee, and they left just as he (Buckett) and Austin came up. Lee lives a few yards from the corner, in Perth Street, and Buckett asked him "to come home." Lee walked up the footpath with him, sand when near his own gate turned and struck Bucket* a blow on the chest. He, :thinkina' it was only a blow with the fist, proceeded homewards, and while he was walking he felt pain in the chest, When he reached home he found ihe had been stabbed. The accused Lee was arrested at 2.30 'd.m. to-day by Constable Flewellen, but no knife was found about his clothes, though one was afterwards discovered, which, was an ordinary pocket-knife, evidently used for cutting tobacco, and such a one as would make the wound in Buckett's chest. When arrested, Lee appeared to be very drunk; The injury, front which it is nob anticipated the wounded man will suffer any great inconvenience, is small, and evidently has been made by such an instrument- as a pocket-knife. The instrument, before reaching .the skin, had to penetrate a vest and two undershirts, so the- blow could not have been ai light one. The accused was brought before the Court this morning and remanded till Friday next.
