CYCLING.

A general meeting of the Canterbury Athletic and Cycling Club -was held in its rooms last evening, Mr G. E. Good presiding. The Chairman stated that the race meeting held j on Nov. 10 had resulted in a loss of £20. [ This was independent of a concession made by the Lancaster Park Company on account of the connection of the meeting with the Lorraine Benefit Fund. He also stated that the committee intended to institute a billiard championship for a handsome silver cup, presented 'by the President. He drew attention 'to the advei-tisemenfc which had appeared in the daily papers concerning the attitude of sports bodies towards the No license movement, and stated that he had been invited to attend a meeting on Thursday morning last. He had been unable to attend, but had he done so, should have strongly discountenanced the action which was subsequently taken, considering it impolitic for clubs to mix themselves up with such matters. Mr P. Hallenstein said it was a pity the matter had been brought up, and moved that the next business should be proceeded with. Mr F. D. Kesteven seconded the motion. He explained that his action had been simply that of an individual, and he contended that as such he was perfectly justified in doing what he did. Mr T. Clarkson said that the club, as representing a large section of cycling and athletic sport in Christchurch, had, by the action of others who claimed to represent the sport, been involved in the matter. He moved — " That this club disclaims any knowledge of the meeting of sports bodies said to have been held in the Clarendon Hotel recently, when a resolution concerning the No license vote at the coming election was carried, and expresses the opinion that it is not in the interests of the sport and of this club to interfere in any way with politics." The amendment was seconded by Mr J. Best, and carried by 24 votes to 4. The question of instituting a gymnasium. ■and opening up a boxing section iv connection with the club was referred to the committee for favourable consideration, and with power to act. It was also decided to instruct the club's delegates on the North Canterbury Centre to support any proposal that might be brought up to the effect that the representatives on the Centre should be one delegate for each club, with proportional voting powers. The election of a large number of members by the committee was confirmed, and the meeting closed. At a meeting of the Union Cycling Club, held on Saturday, it <was decided to ask Mr C. Cusack to act as starter in the running events at the club's sports, to be held on Jara. 2. Mr Humphreys was declared the winner of the billiard tournament just ended.
