The Gemischter Abend, which was to haVe been given by the Christchurch Liedertafel on Nov. 30, has been postponed until Dec. 14. The adjourned meeting of citizens will be held in the City Council Chambers at 4 p.m. on .Thursday. At the Lyttelton Magistrate's Court this morning, James Ramsay, an ordinary seaman on the barque Woosung, pleaded guilty to having been absent without leave. Captain Bushell, the commander of the vessel, said that he did not wish the man sent to gaol, and would receive him on board the ship if he would promise to go to work. This the accused undertook to do, and Mr J. T. Brice, the presiding Justice, discharged him with a caution. At a meeting of creditors this morning, the Official Assignee, in stating that he would consult his solicitor as to whether a certain deed was void or not, said people might think that with his experience he <raght to be able to decide at once upon points under the bankruptcy laws, but the Act was so drawn that it was an extremely . difficult matter to decide whether many of the preferential payments were void or not. There -was a very thin line dividing -what Was legal from what was not. A solicitor "who was present suggested that the difference was very much like that between " tweedle-dum " and " tweedle-dee." The sub-committee appointed to bring up a report on the judging at the Floral Fete met on Saturday evening. It went through the programme and selected judges. The report will be presented to the meeting to be held on Wednesday. The Ground and Gate Committee has completed the 'arrangements for the fete. The Bland Holt Dramatic Company closed a successful three weeks' season at the Theatre Royal on Saturday evening, and left for Wellington by the Te Anau the same night. Catalogues for the first of the present series of local wool sales, which will open at the Chamber of Commerce HalL on Thursday, will close this evening. So far as can be gathered, the catalogue will comprise about 6000 bales. Upwards of one hundred entries have been received for the spring meeting of the Pioneer Amateur Bicycle and Athletic Club on Saturday. The entries include those of competitors from South Canterbury and the United Kingdom. A man named F. J. M'Ginnity, arrested in Wellington on a charge of having stolen from a man-of-warsman on the Riccarton Racecourse on -Nov. 9, a totalisator ticket, of the value of £6 12s, was brought down by steamer yesterday, and will be taken before tbe Court to-day. Councillor Jones, of ' the Sydenham Borough Council, has given notice of his intention to move at the next meeting of the Council that the Christchurch City Council should be written to, with a view of obtaining the co-operation of the surrounding local bodies in a scheme for (1) efficient electric power and lighting, (2) high-pres-sure water-supply and (3) control of the public services. An inspection of the new baths at New Brighton was made by the honorary Secretary of the Swimming Association recently, and he gave it as his opinion that, when completed, they would be one of the finest baths in New Zealand for holding longdistance championships in. A great advantage is that the water will be absolutely still ; and tliis, as a rule, can only be secured in docks. There was a crowded congregation at St Matthew's Church, St Albans, last evening, "when Bishop Julius preached. He spoke of the war, and the application of a Christian's duty.
