SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The Addington School Committee met on Wednesday ; present — Messrs Bowden (chairman), Bell, Brown, Johnson, Down, Hooper, Moore and Staples. An apology for absence was received from Mr Clarke. The headmaster reported an average attendance of 413. A deputation waited on the committee with reference to the use of the school bath in event of the formation of a district swimming club, and asked for the use of the schoolroom for a public meeting to discuss the matter. It was decided to grant the use of the schoolroom for a public meeting, and to adjourn for a fortnight to consider the terms on which .the committee would allow the proposed swimming club to use the bath. A meeting of the , East Christchurch School Committee wau held. on Friday ; present — Messrs J. R. Brant (chairman), J. T. Smith, ,D. Lumsden, S. Clarke, H. Allison, A. Marshall, and J. Jamieson. It was resolved to recommend Mr A. S. Taylor and Miss Ruby Bunz for appointment on the teaching staff. The Savings Bank matter was left to the Chairman and Headmaster to report on. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes wrote with regard to free education at the School of Art, suggesting that Phillips-town was entitled .to .the privilege. He consi dered there would Be some difficulty in providing the proposed Cadet Corps with uniforms. The matter was left with the Chairman and Headmaster to ascertain if a badge would be sufficient. The monthly meeting of the Richmond School Committeewas held on Wednesday evening • present — Mejisrs Paull (chairman). Bell, Clarke, Cochrane, Flesher, Hughes^ Shaw and Sorensen. The Chairman reported that, in rtsponi-re to a communication from the Education Board, arrangements had been made for the formation of .a cadet corps in connection with the school, and application had been made for the supply of forty model rifles. A letter was read from the Board, staging what repairs it was prepared to effect to the school premises. It was decided to ask the Board to assist in asphaltinc part of the playground.
