DR GOW'S APPOINTMENT.
[Fbom'Opb Cokbebpoitdbnt.] x WELLINGTON, Sept. 22. I am informed by the Premier that the London cablegram stating that Dr Baxter Grow, of Prestwick, Ayrshire, had- 'been appointed superintendent of the New Zealand lunatic asylums, is incorrect. Doctor Gow has merely been appointed superintendent of one of the asj^irms in the colony, but wiach. particular institution has not yet been decided. He is an M.D. of Edinburgh, and a sgecialist in lunacy. He is in charge of one of the departments of the Manchester Asylum, one of the ilargest lunacy establishments in the world. The " New Zealand Times " in a sub-leader this morning complained of new- departures, as announced in the cable, being only made public from-the other end, but the Premier's correction, of course, disarms the criticism.
