ANOTHER RAID ON CHINESE GAMBLERS.
■ ♦ [Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, July 31. Last night nine police, under Chief Detective Grace, raided a Chinese gambling den in Wakefield Street, and in three small rooms found sixty Chinamen playing dominoes, fan-tan, and smoking opium. They arrested twenty-two fan-tan players, who were htandcuffed in pairs and taken, to the Police Court, a large crowd of people coming from church following. The prisoners were charged with keeping and being found in a common gaming house. A number of ■other Chinamen came down to bail out ten of the accused, but these refused to go unless all were bailed out. Two intended leaving for Sydney, en route for China, to-night, with a large sum of money. The prisoners are chiefly suburban gardeners, who "knock down" their cheques and have to return to work again in a week or two.
