FIRES.

At- -half -past four this morning there was an outbreak; of ;fire at-tMessra'Moi'r and Co.'smills;' Soiithhrobk. The mill was working, and one of the hands ribticecf flames- issuing from the louvred turret on the. top. of the kiln used in the manufacture of oatmeal. Alarms were given at the Southbrook and Rangiora Brigade Stations, but the engine at the latter wasinot allowed to go out of the town. The Southbrook Brigade turned out with their small engine, but it proved to be of very little use, the seat of the fire, being beyond its capabilities. Good service was done, however, with buckets, and the fire was quenched before it got further than the roof of the building. It is supposed that the fire was started by a spark from the engine chimney lodging in the turret. The damage is estimated at about £100, a quantity of stock being injured by water. The insurance risk is held by the New Zealand Company.
