CONCILIATION AND ARBITRATION SYDNEY, April 22.
Under the Conciliation and Arbitration Bill power is given to the Minister to direct that public inquiry into disputes or probable disputes shall be conducted by a judge of the supreme or district court, but no provision is made for enforcing awards, the idea being that a public inquiry rovealing the merits of a dispute will have a sufficiently salutary effect. A PRESBYTERIAN SENSATION. MELBOURNE, April 22. As the outcome of the publication of his book, the Rev Hector Ferguson has resigned his charge of the Northcote Presbyterian Church. The church' oncers, teachers and leading members are also resigning. THE EFFECTS OF A HURRICANE. BRISBANE, April 22. The official report on the late hurricane shows that 86 vessels were lost, arid that between 360 and 400 coloured men and 14 Europeans were drowned. The damage is estimated at £50,000.
