[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Jan. 25. At the Board of Education, an account for law expenses in connection- with Miss Hwelden's appeal case, was brought before the Board. Dr Laishley's charge was £47 183 6d, and that of Megsra Stout, Findiay and Co., £35 6s 6d, while tlie cost of printing copies of the appeal was £12 10s, the total be'mg" £95 150, Mr Oily $aid that the ■whole thing had been broiighfc about by the action of the Educational Institute, which should bo mude responsible for the debt. The Chairman said that the Board had been led into the expense through the action of their teachers. It was agreed io refer tho matter to the Finance Committee to deal with. . . At the late Maori meeting at Tauwhare, many political questions were discussed. It is imderstood that as «a outcome of the gathering, King Mahuta will contest n scat for one of the Native electorates.
