PRESENTATION.
Mr C. B. Winter, who has been for many years manager of the local branch of the Bank of Australasia, hcas been promoted to j the important position of inspector in South j Australia, and will leave for Adelaide icn Oct. 4. At the request of some of the ; bank's clients, Messrs W. Harris and H. Kohn took the initiative in organising a presentation, and as the result of a circular which was sent out by them, a substantial sum was quickly subscribed. A deputation consisting of Messrs W. Harris, H.. .Kohn, J. Deans .and E. Currie, and .'professor Brown, was appointed to select the gifts, and make the presentation, and they chose for Mr Winter a gold hunting keyleSs chronograph, with a massive gold albert, anidl sovereign purse ; for Mr and Mrs Winter, a . sterling silver tea tray in a velvet lined morocco leather casa, and for Mrs. Winter' herself a double bar gold brooch .with a sappTnre and two diamonds in a coronet setting in the centre. The presentation took place yesterday afternoon in Mr Winter's office, and the. following letter, signed by the subscribers, accompanied the gifts: — "C. B. Winter, Esq., Bank of .Australasia, Christchurch. . Dear sir, — It is with feelings of regret that we, as clients of the bank, learn of your early departure from Christchurch, but whilst sorry to lose you we wish to express the confidence and admiration with which you have inspired all who have come in contact with you and to congratulate you heartily on your well-merite*!/ promotion to the more important post of inspector in South Australia. In order to mark the high appreciation and esteem in which you are held we desire you to accept the accompanying souvenirs, which may remind yVu of the many friends and well-wishers you have left in New Zealand." Mr Winter returned thanks on behalf of his wife and himself.
