ST JOHN' AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION.

The quarterly meeting of the committee of the St John Ambulance Aawaatton was held yesterday in the City Council Library - T present— the Mayor (in the ohahr), Mesdames Ha _on and Julius, Miss Willis, Captain Garsia, Dr Thomas, Messrs Connal and Teape. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs Louisson, Miss Pheney, Dr Hacon, Mr Jekyll and the Rev W. Morlev. The Secretary reported as follows:—lnvalid transport— During the past three months the horse ambulance had been used in movinsr twenty-three cases, two accident, the rest invalid. Nurse, register— Another nurse hud been added to the register Urgen. requests for nurses to go to Amberley, Waikari and Akaroa had been satisfied promptly through the register. Christchurch classes -Forty-nine women had been instructed in first ai. and thirty-six had passed the exami- , nation Fiftv-four women had been in-, structed in "nursing and thirty-nine had passed the examination. Twenty-eight men had been instructed in first aid and nineteen had passed the examination. Thirteen more men had been instructed and were in process of examination. Dr Neale. men's nursing: class would commence the following day, and the women's medallion class would be examined oh Thursday. Dr Orchard s home hygiene class of -women liad commenced witn an .attendance of twenty-seven ; Dr Neale s home hygiene class for men with an attendance of eleven. At the Amberley branch, twenty-two women and twelve men had been instructed in first aid by Dr Fitzhenry, and fifteen women and nine men had passed. They were now going on with the nursing course. At Waimate, Dr Barclay was instructing a men's first aid class. At Blackball (Westland), Dr Howard's class was about to be examined. At Lyttelton, Dr "Pairirtan was instructing a class of the N Battery Artillery. At Tai Tapu, Mrs R. Heaton Rhodes had formed a branch, and Dr Fenwick was instructing classes. -Dr Hacon wrote, pointing out the importance of sanitary measures as a preventive ot consumption, and urged the committee to obtain copies of the pamphlet " Hints About the Prevention of Consumption," by Dr Russell, of Glasgow, for distribution. The Secretary was instructed to ascertain the cost of the pamphlets. The Chief Secretary wrote, expressing his satisfaction at the steady progress of the Centre. Accounts amounting to £23 8s 8d "were passed for payment and the meeting closed.
