An Egyptian patrol came in contact with a body of Dervish horsemen eleven miles up the river from Atbara. The Dervishes attacked the Egyptians, but were; repulsed- with/, heavy^ loss. The Egyptian artillery shelled the enemy with, great effect. -Seven Egyptians were killecjReceived March 24, 11.20 a.m. Five hundred Dervish horsemen attacked Egyptian cavalry returning from patrol duty. The enemy drove them up almost to Atbara camp. The Dervish camp fires are visible about eighteen miles distant from Atbara.
