Council, could not depart from the original' agreement with regard to payment . of legal costs. The Town Clerk reported the receipts to have been -867- 18s 7d; :credit b ilance at bank -Slßl 19s Bd. Tenders had been called for the lighting .of the borough. Leave of absence was granted to Councillors Winny and Marshall. The Works Committee recommended that the sum of <£5 should be spent in scooping the sand off the esplanade. The Lighting Committee recommended the erection of three . new lamps in the borough. It was resolved that £5 should be allocated for the ex peri-, ment of removing '" the sand from the esplanade' on the south side of the pier. It was ■ resolved . that the tender of W. Harrison for the, lighting, of the borough for .£3l 13s 4d should beaccepted. On.the motion of Councillor Glanville it was resolved to call a' public meeting in the 1 borough to consider the best method to adopt in planting the beach with trees! It was resolved that the By-law Committee should be authorised to take steps to have by-laws on subjects approved by the Council prepared without delay. The Town Clerk was 1 instructed to an ' • estimate of the costof completing the footpath from the west end of Seaview Road along the New Brighton Road as far as Mi; Nicho.l's house. .
