■_» — At Mount Somers during Monday's storm, Doak's store was half unroofed, and a good deal of minor damage was done about the township. The Anama station was smashed up completely, and the Cavendish shelter shed much damaged. In the Euapuna and Mayfield districts the wheat and oat stacks were blown away in some cases, and all weie much damaged, and other mischief was done. In the Winchmore district Mr Stitt's stable was unroofed, and a farmer lower down had his stable blown away bodily, and a horse injured. A ploughing contractor had his ploughs buried out of sight under drifted furrows at Braemar. A- terrific nor'- west gale raged at Waddington on Tuesday afternoon, and ended in the evening with a heavy downpour of rain. The farmers were busy yesterday repairing the damage done to their stacks, which in 'many places were blown down and; carried .across the paddocks. Onr Leeston correspondent wrote yesterday as follows :— The Ellesmere district was visited by one of the most violent rior'west gales on Monday last that has occurred for many years past. The wind sprang up very, strongly in-the morning, and'increasing in strength as the day wore on, had become a regular hurricane about sundown. Many outhouses and chimneys were blown down, and the fruit trees were literally stripped of fruit and foliage. In Leeston a large stable and trap-house were blown to the ground and smashed into sections. Several other premises were more or less damaged; No rain- followed to compensate for thei damage, and from all appearances it is as far off as ever.
