The Works Committee recommended .that tenders should be invited for gravelling' Falsgrave Street south and Mowbray Street, and that an application from the Sydenham Football Club to play football on Sydenham Park should be granted. The committee was of opinion that sufficient evidence would be furnished to prove a nuisance at Hancock's soap works, and proposed to put the evidence in Mr T. G. .Russell's hands for his opinion. The committee recommended that fresh tenders should be invited for the purchase of the Council's rights in connection with the section of land fronting the South Belt. The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported the receipts during the past fortnight to have been .£407 Os 9d, and recommended payments amounting to .£914 3s 2d. The credit balance at the bank stands at <£6293 12a Id, and the debit on the general account .£3303 7s 4d. The committee requested authority to pay tbj9 balance of the Drainage Board's rates. after the end of the month, to enable the Council to obtain the commission of five per cent.
