A large amount of wreckage came ashore on the Tiri and One Beach, near Whangaparoa Point. The expenses of blowing up the vessel is to be borne by Mr D. Gouk, who purchased the wreck, and Mrs Jesse Craig, the former owner. The Hop. James Carroll attended at the Government Buildings yesterday to transact business, and paid a visit to the Blind Institute. He is on his way to the Huntly Native meeting. _He leaves on Wednesday, and returns at the end of the week. It is stated that the Premier will visit Auckland next month. By the Elingamite Mr Pittar's 30ft yacht Meteor was shipped to Sydney, and will take part there in a series of intercolonial sailing races. Three races have been arranged to take place in Sydney Harbour, with the two-and-a-half-rater Bronzewing and other yachts, the winner of two out of three races to get .£SO. It is expected that the Helen, Lord Brassey's yacht, of Melbourne, will take part in the. races, and also an Adelaide boat. Mr C. Bailey, jun., was to have gone across to sail the Meteor, but owing to pressure of business he is unable to get away. Mr Pittar accompany's his yacht, and Mr T. Ryan also goes across to form a boat's crew. The Meteor is expected to return to Auckland in about three weeks' time. Among the passengers by the Westralia were S. Eowley, the hundred yards champion of Australia, and W. B. Alexander, honorary sprint handicapper to the New South Wales Amateur Athletic Association. Both of the visitors will be competitors at the Auckland Association's CarnV val on. Saturday. Great interest is b,eing taken, in Sydney over the. contest on Saturday between Rowley, Patrick, and G. Smith in the invitation- scratch races. .
