ROAD BOARD.

GUST. , , The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Monday, March 14; present — Messrs W. J. Atkinson (chairman), W. F. Conway, K. Thompson, K. Kingsbury and T. Tallott. Correspondence was received from the Agricultural Department with leaflets for gardeners and fruit-growers, and from the Valuer-General asking for a formal request for a valuation roll to be supplied to the district. The tenders for forming Fairweathei's Eoad being too high, it was decided to call for fresh tenders for next Board meeting. The Clerk was instructed to see where boulders could be got for the main road, and to report at next meeting. Accounts for <£33 Os Id were passed for payment.

Akt Society.— The annual exhibition of the Canterbury Society of Arts will open this evening at the Art Gallery. At eight o'clock the president (the Hon E. C. J. Stevens) will deliver the inaugural address, and present the medals won during the past year. The gallery has been tastefully decorated by Mr Fuhrmann, and the contract for refreshments is in the hands ot Mr J Freeman. Mr H. Ecssiter's orchestra has been specially engaged to provide music, and amoug a number of pictures in the loan collection are three which have been forwarded by the Countess of Eanfurly. _ T A New Zealand MusicuN.-Mr Harry Eossiter, of this city, who has been very successful as a composer yesterday made arrangements with Mr W. Sickens of Messrs Wickens and Co., the well-known London firm of music publishers, who^ is on his triennial tour round the world, to publish seventeen of his compositions. Mi ■Wickens has also made arrange^ent? Jito Mr Rossiter for the right of Polling future compositions. The firm which iMr Wickens represents has already £*£«£ several of the same composer eluding " Zealandia," inQ U6 Waltzes," and a barn dance.
