■♦ . THE BOSS MEDALS. The. final of the contest for the fouv gold medals presented to the Christchurch Bowling Club by Mr John Ross, of Messrs Sargood, Son and Ewen, was played at the club's green on Saturday afternoon. The medals were competed for in a rink match amongstthe members of the club, each competitor in the winning rink to receive a medal. The contest had narrowed itself down to two rinks, skipped, respectively, by C. Jackson and L. B. Wood. There were a large number of spectators present, and at the conclusion of the match the result was a win for Jackson's rink by four points. The following were the rinks and the scores:— C. Jackson (skip), C. Cuff, J. G-. Moore and Dr Downes, 22; L. B. Wood (skip), H. N. Nalder, J. E. Jakins and C. E. Blakiston, 18. The scores at the seventh head were : —Jackson 7, Wood 6; fourteenth headJackson 12, Wood 11. After the match a gathering took place in the pavilion, and Mr Henry Thomson, one of the oldest members of the club, presented the medals to the winners. He congratulated the rink on being successful in securing such handsome medals. The medals, which are of gold, are suspended from a light blue ribbon, and bear the following inscription:— "Presented by Mr John Eoss to the Christchurch Bowling Club, March, 1898." On the opposite side is a space to receive the name of the member of the rink. The health of the rinks was duly honoured, and was responded to by Mr Jackson and Mr Wood on behalf of their respective rinks. M . 'flie president (Mr J. C Maddison) in proposing the health of Mr Ross the donor of the medals, expressed the thanks of the club for his handsome donation.
