i — ♦ Election.— Mr R. J. B. Dalley has been elected to fill the seat on the WaimakaririAsh'ley Water Supply Board, rendered vacant by the - retirement of Mr J. O'Halloran. Confirmation Service. — The- Bishop. of Christchurch held a confirmation service at Coldstream on Friday, when he administered the rite to four candidates. This was the Bishop's h'rst visit to the district, and he was the guest of Mr and Mrs Studholme during his stay. Woodend. — On Thursday afternoon and evening the children attending the Woodend andWakiukuWesleyan Sunday Schools held their annual bazaar in aid of missionary work in New Guinea. The bazaar was opened by the Rev T. G. Carrat 2.30 p.m. when there was a large attendance, and afternoon tea was provided by the elder scholars. Most of the articles were disposed of, and the proceeds amounted to £7 6s. Peel Forest.— Our correspondent writes aa follows:— We have had a considerable amount of cold, bleak weather lately, with nor.'-westers interspersed. Light showers have fallen, but not nearly enough to soak the ground. Feed is still very scarce, and I fear that it is too late in the season to hope for a winter supply, as the frosts will be here soon. Sheep, however, are looking well, and a large number of fat lambs have been quitted. Bush matters are quiet. Kaiapoi.— A. number of the Christchurcb Press Company's employes visited Kaiapoi on Saturday to enter into three competitions with members of tho Kaiapoi Working Men's Club. In a Morris-tubo shooting match, ten men a side, tho 'scores wore : Working Men'« Club, 252 ; Press employe's, 229. In a euchre match, eight men a side, the club won eighteen games, the visitors eight; and in a cribbago matoh, ten men aside, the club won twenty-eight games and the Pra»» oinployfa ninotoen. After tho games refroshmontu wore served, and a pleasant time wafl Bpont by tho members of the club and thoir visitors.
