FOOTBALL.
The- eleventh annual meeting 1 of the Linwood Football Club was held at the club room, Morten's Buildings, yesterday evening. TUoro was a large attendance of members, and Mr S. Orchard, the captain of last year, presided. A letter was read from the honorary Secretary of the Union Football Club, Dunedin, stating that two of: that club's teams would visit Christchurch at Eastor. The letter was received ■with applause. The report and balancesheet showed that the assets of the club exceeded the liabilities by £100 6s 9d. The credit balance amounted to 6a 9d. During the past season the membership of the club had increased by 20 per cent. The club had been successful in carrying off the Senior Championship of the Canterbury Eugby Union. The record of the senior team was— Matches played, 11 j 9 wonj 1 lost and 1 drawn ; points for the club 143, against 31. Messrs Orchard, OTtaenj Glennie, Price, Panning and Evans Bad represented the province in interprovincial matches, and- Messrs Kerr, Orchard and Glennie had had the honour of being selected to represent New Zealand in the Australian tour, though Mr Kerr was unfortunately unablo to join the team. The Junior Flag i;eam had also been successful, having been placed second in the Flag competition. Out of 12 matches played it won 8, lost 2,- drew 2, and scored 10S points as against 45 contra. The "A " and " B " President's Cup teams had not been as successful as the others, but it was stated that, with the sterling young playera included in both tnams, combination was the one requisite necessary to success this year. ■ The Chairman moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. Mr E. M. Carr, in seconding the resolution, characterised both balance-sheet and report as the most satisfactory in the history of the club. During a discussion which arose on the question of procuring the necessary ground for fourth fifteens, Mr E. M. Carr suggested that the Canterbury Rugby "Union should be requested to provide the , requisite grounds. A member stated that the Domain Board had refused to allocate any new grounds in the North Park. The report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. The following were elected officers for the ensuing year: — President, Mr A. Loughreyj vice-presidents, Messrs E. C. Bishop, G. Payling, M. O'Brien, G. H. Wright, E. K. L. Kni«hfc, J. Irvine, S. H. Vernazoni, J. P. Kelly, Mrs Adams and Dr Orchard ; club captain, Mr S. Orchard; honorary secretary, Mr F, H. Cowper; honorary treasurer, Mr F. O'Brien ; committee, Messrs E. M. Carr, H. G. Stringer, B. Fanning, J. Macfarlane, and A. H. Koall ; delegates to Eugby Union, Messrs E. M. Carr, H. G. Stringer, A. H. Noall, and W. M'Namara ; auditors, Messrs H. Barry and E. J. Pegg. On the motion of Mr E. M. Carr, the committee was empowered to appoint a Finance Committee to assist the Secretary and Treasurer in the matter of collecting subsoriptions. It was resolved that the club should formally open its season on March 26, and that as many players as possible should attend practice this afternoon. Fourteen new members were elected, and the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
