SWIMMING.

CANTERBURY" CLUB. The Canterbury Amateur Swimming Club held its first annual race meeting at Mr E. Kent's bath at Richmond last evening. There was a very fair attendance, including a considerable number of ladies. The handicapping was exceedingly good, and most of the heats were won by a few inches, the judges finding it a difficult matter in some cases to place the competitors. The water, which was heated specially for the occasion, allowed the swimmers to put up fast times. The officials worked well, and the long programme of events was carried out in a very creditable manner. Owing to the length of the programme and the short space of time in which it-bad to bo gotSthrough, it was found necessary to postpone the 50yds Club Handicap, which will be decided at the bath on I Thursday evening. During the evening an exhibition of fancy diving and swimming was given ; by Messrs T. H. Harker, G. J. Erringfcon and J. Northey, of the Christchnrch Gymnasium, and at the conclusion they were heartily cheered. Tho following were the officers : — Referee, Mr J. J. Kinsey ; starter, Mr A. Francis ; check starter, Mr J.
