FIRES.

Between ten and eleven o'clock last nigfhfc a house of seven or eight rooms in Bexley Eoad, New Brighton, was burned down, scarcely anything being saved. The house was owned by Mr M' Alpine, and occupied by Mr Reynolds. The furniture is understood to have been insured for .£l5O. The fire is supposed to have originatad from a defective kitchen chimney.

Pitch and Toss and Epaulet galloped a mile and a quarter, being brought home by Signet. Epaulet refused to try, and the filly beat him badly.
