GardeK Party.— There was a large attendance at the garden party, in connection with the Durham Street Methodist Church, which wns hold in Mr H. B. Sorensen's grounds, at Richmond, yesterday afternoon. Bowls, croquet, and other amusements, as well as light refreshments, were provided for the visitors, who appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The Premier. -I" consequence of urgent business, the Premier finds that it is impossible for him to be in Lyttelton to receive the addresses that were to be presented to him there to-morrow evening. He will leavo Wellington for Lyttelton on Saturday nfcht; and will go on to Dunedin on Monday morning to take partm the Jubilee demonstrations. Arrange- . ments have boen made to present the addresses on his return, when lie will probably spend a few days in Christchurch. To-day it costs per annum to maintain the peace of Europe,
