An adjourned meeting was held at the Young Men's Christian Association Roomsto receive and consider the report submitted by the sub-committee which was appointed to prepare a draft address of .sympathy to be publicly presented to Miss -Ethel T. M. Baker, and as to the best means of expressing in a practical form the feelings of the public in regard to the treatment of that lady in the skin-grafting case. Legal advice was taken as to the best way of protecting any subscriptions thai; might be raised against being seized to pay the costsof, the • defence in. the recent court case. In accordance with that advice, the following resolution was passed by the meeting : — "That a committee, to be called the Finance Committee, be appointed, to hold all moneys received from the public fpr such person and purposes us may be decided upon by a public meeting called for . the purpose by this committee." It was resolved that the address should be illuminated, and that at such time as the committee might deem right a public meeting should be called for the purpose of passing the address and presenting it to Mis 3 Baker. The address was approved. It concludes : " Your bringing an action at law, Baker v. . Purchas.has theeffectof arousingthe public ' mind to the danger in the assumed claims of experimental surgery, and though you were not successful in obtaining a verdict, you have laid the publio under a lasting debt of gratitude. The feeling of the whole -Oiumunity has been deeply moved by the Avrongs done to you in connection with this affair, and we beg your acceptance of the accompanying testimonial, as an expression of admiration for a brave and noble girl who has suffered in the cause of humanity."
