Representatives of the Employers' i Federation and the allied bodies, have agreed upon and signed a settlement. Work will be re-started on Monday. Received Jan 30, 5.20 p.m. The third ballot taken by the Amalgamated Society of Engineers on the question of effecting a provisional arrangement with regard to the conditions proposed by the employers for management of works, reunited in 28,588 voting for aud 13,727 against the acceptance of the conditions. I Mr G-. Barnes, secretary of the ; Society of Engineers, has signed an , agreement accepting the masters' terms. Work, which is plentiful, will be resumed ou Monday next. j The employers exhibit a spirit of moderation and cordiality towards the i ex-strikers.

j While asserting their right tb absolute freedom in tho management of. their busiI' nesses, the employers neither sought to ' interfere with the unions and their f unc- ( tionsj nor refused to recognise the unions. 'j Their proposals on the subject of management of workshops were as follow : The Federated Employers will admit no interference with the management of their business, and reserve to themselves the right to introduce into any federated workshop, at the option of the employer conj cerned, any condition of labour under which any members of the trade unions here represented were working at the commencement of the dispute in any of the workshops of the Federated Employers. This was accepted by the representatives of the men, subject to the vote of the Unionists, which has just been taken. On the question of machines and the wages, of those who work them, the employers maintained as follows •. — The machine tools are the property of the employers, and they are responsible for the work turned out by them. They therefore will continue to exercise their discretion to appoint the men they consider suitable to work them, and determine the conditions under which such machine tools shall be worked. The men's final position was: They acknowledged the employers' right to decide what appliances should be adopted in the works, but practically asked to control the wages to be paid to workmen appointed to particular machines.
