ASSAULT AND ROBBERY.
[Per Press Association.] NAPIER, Jan. 29. A brutal assault and robbery took place in Market Street shortly before midnight, William Gardner, a waiter at the Criterion • Hotel, being set upon, knocked down and robbed of £5., Gardner was found lying in the street insensible at two o'clock this morning. An examination showed a severe wound on the back of his head, rendering his removal to the hospital necessary.
