NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the delegates to the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association took place last evening at the Clarendon Hotel • present— Messrs G. Booth (Wellington), A. Francis (Ashburton), J. Watson and G. J. Smart (Christchurch)J W. C. Harrington and N. Taylor (Lyttelton), H. Frost (Pahiatua), L. D. Armitage (Port Ahuriri), C. Taylor (Riccarton), K. Bassett (Richmond), C. Kent (Sydenham), F. Truscott (New Brighton), T. Wauchop,. H. G. Brown and A.. E. Taylor (East Christchurch), R. O. Duncan (Hutt Valley) and W. G. Atack (Napier). Mr E. W. Roper, vice-president, was 'voted to the chair. The Secretary laid before the meeting the report of the work done by *the executive as to the Australasian Championship Meeting. Mr G. Booth moved the adoption of the report. Mr Taylor seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Mr Booth moved — " That the executive be empowered to add to its number, to enable special committees to help to car,ry out the championship meeting." Mr Kent seconded the motion, which, was carried. The Appeal Committee reported on the appeals from the Lyttelton Club and the Sydenham Club. With reference to 1 " the first the committee expressed the opinion that a mistake had been committed, and with regard to the second, the committee referred the matter to the Council. After discussion Mi Booth moved a resolution, to the effect, that the dates of the various meetings should be submitted to the local officer and approved by him, he to summon a meeting of delegates to discuss the matter, if necessary. Mr Brown seconded the motion. Mr Bassett moved, \ as an amendment— "That m each province of New Zealand a meeting of delegates be called by the Consul in the months of October and December, to settle the dates i of carnivals and race meetings j that appli- | cations for any desired date be forwarded to tho local Consul, and if the dates clash ! a ballot be taken." Mr Armitage seconded the amendment. After some discussion j Mr Bassett's amendment was put and lost, ani Mr Booth's motion was agreed to. The Chairman drew the attention of the Consuls to the necessity for seeing that ample room was given tbe competitors. Mr Taylor called attention to the necessity for the Association taking up the matter of' school championships. The Secretary stated that if the Council took tip the matter it would mean establishing school championships throughout the colony. Mr Francis said that as regarded the local school championships they would be considered at a later meeting of the local delegates. Mr Taylor moved that it should be a recommendation to the executive to endeavour to get school- championships established in New Zealand as soon as possible. Mr Watson seconded the motion, which was agreed to. The meeting then terminated. A meeting of Canterbury Clubs delegates was held after the Association's meeting, and Mr A. Francis, the local consul, presided. v The question of holding a Schools Championship was discussed, and finally agreed to. Mr K. Bassett was appointed secretary to make the necessary arrangements. The distances were allotted as under : — Sydenham, Feb. o, 100 yds ;■ East Christchurch, Feb. 12, 25yds ; Richmond, Feb. 19, 75yds ; Christchurch (date not fixed), 50yds. Each club interested will give a donation towards providing a gold medal for the schoolboy of the age of fifteen or under who gains most points in the different competitions. A handicap swimming race, of 50yds, between members of tho Post and Telegraph Athletic Club will take •place on Friday afternoon, at the Lancaster Park baths, at 5.30 p.m. The following handicaps have been declared:— First heat : J. Alexander sur, R. V. Logic 2sec, F. Brooker 4sec, C. A. Chambers Ssec, G. A. Maskew Ssec, S. M. Harrison 13sec. Second heat: J. Haydon 2sec, A. Shelton Ssec, J. Brooks usee, J. Ross usee, J. H. Jacobs lOsec, P. A. Brewer losec. Third heat: A. Nicholls ser, W. E. Watts 3sec, A. P. Gibson 4sec, H..J. Bennett 6sec, J. A. Chapman llsec, F. W. Innes 18sec.
