The Chairman said they were called together to consider the matter of the Girls' High School, which 1 had lost its Lady Principal 1 by death. They would all regret the death of Mrs Poster, who was a most able teacher,- and who had carried on the school in a most satisfactory manner. They would join with him in expressing sympathy with the bereaved husband, who for many years had been head-master of the West Christchurch School, and who had for some time been a member of the Board. He moved — "The Board of Governors expresses its sincere regret at the 1 sudden death of Mr 3T. S. Poster, the Lady Principal of tho Girls' High School, on Dec. 31, and desires to place on record its sense of the loss occasioned to the cause of higher education in Canterbury thereby. The deceased lady brought to her work at the Girls' High School, good scholarship, excellent teaching power and disciplinary force, and during her term of office had, by unflagging diligence and courtesy, gained the goodwill and respect of the pupils snd their parents. Her work has been exceptionally thorough and acceptable throughout, and her best memorial will be found hereafter in the lives of those who were^. her scholars, and whom she influenceiMW good during the time they werej" l^* s1 * ncr care. Montgomery, in seconding the motion, said that the Board and the cause of education had lost a most capable scholar, and one who was zealous in all her work, a-d they would all sympathise deeply \yich her bereaved family. Mr Howard, in bearing testimony to the good work done by the late Lady Principal, referred to the high moral standard which she introduced into the school. The motion was carried unanimously, all the members standing. THE POSITION OP LADY PRINCIPAL. The Board then went into committee to considei* the report of the College Committee, which recommended that it should be authorised to advertise in New Zealand newspapers for .a lady principal for the Girls' High School at a salary of .£4OO per annum without fees ; six months' notice in writing to be required on either side to terminate the engagement, and that applicants be requested to state the earliest date on which they could take up the duties of the position, and forward four copies of each testimonial to the Eegistrar ; applications to be in by Feb. 10. It also recommended that Miss Hendersonshouldbe asked to undertake the management of tho Girls' High School until the position of lddy principal was filled, and that the sum of .£SO per term should be awarded to her, in addition to her present salary, for the extra responsibility devolving upon hex*. Upon the Board's resuming, the Chairman moved the adoption of the report, which was carried. WELL-SINKING. The College Committee was empowered to advertise for tenders for sinking a deep well at the Girls' High School, and also to cotyiect the premises with the main sewer, and to carry out the work. The Board then rose.
