Five inches of rain have fallen during the last forty-eight hours, and the low-lying portions of the town are submerged. People who are living in positions subject to floods are removing to places of safety. Railway communication with the north is interrupted. Eeceived Jan. 11, 9.43 a.m. BRISBANE, Jak. 11. • ' The rain ceased last night, but the river is still rising rapidly. Cairns and Townsville are threatened by floods, and railway communication is interrupted in several directions.
