WAIMAKARIRI RIVER BOARD.
, A meeting of the South Waimakariri River Board was held yesterday afternoon,* present— Messrs R. W. England (chairman), R. M. Taylor, T. Wilßon, C. F. Money and H. W. Peryman. An apology for absence was received from Mr J. Glan-- . ville, coupled with a request that Mb motion in connection with gravel at Chaney'e Corner should be held over till next meeting. The request was^ granted. It was resolved that advertisements should be inserted directing theattention of contractors and others to the necessity for obtaining licenses to carfcr boulders and shingle from the river-bed. The overseer reported that the river was very low, and that the main stream was more to the north side than it had been for years. The new embankment at Mason's Flat had been completed at a cost of .£325 . 4s lid. The report was adopted. A letter was received from the Selwyn County Council, drawing attention to the encroachment of the river at White's Bridge. The letter was acknowledged, and it was resolved that the Council should be asked what proportion of the coßt it would be prepared to pay if the Board should deoide to undertake any of the further protective works in that locality. The Chairman reported that since the last meeting the overseer had made trials of the pipes ne- \ cessary to carry the water of the creek through the embankment at Mason's Flat, and had found that a one-foot pipe would not take the quantity flowing. He had consulted some of the members of the Board and the overseer, and finally had decided to postpone putting in the culvert until it -was found necessary or expedient. It was resolved that the action of tiio Chairman and members should bo approved. The pay-sheet, amounting to JJt63 IDs Gd, was adopted. The meeting «b.taa terminated. - "■'■ w-
