THE GOVERNOR.

REPLY TO THE PRESBYTERY'S ADDRESS. At the meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery this morning, the following reply to the address presented by the Presbytery to his Excellency the Governor was read : — "To the Ministers and Elders of the Presbytery of Christchurch.— Gentlemen — I have received by your address another indication of the warmth of the affection towards the Throne, which I am delighted to witness everywhere in these islands. If sympathy can be of any consolation to her Majesty the Queen, she has evidently received it ; for her colonies have one and all felt with her in her present sorrow as they rejoiced over her Jubilee in June last. The duties with which I am entrusted shall ever receive my strict attention, and I hope during the time I reside in New Zealand that tho moral and religious well-being of the people will steadily advance. Your address of welcome to Lady Ranfurly and myself is very acceptable to me, proving that all branches of the Church, though they may differ in various ways, are at one in welcoming to these islands the representative of the throne ; and I shall at an early date acquaint her Majesty of my reception in this part of the colony. — Ranfurly."
