" THE SIGN OF THE CROSS."
To-morrow evening Williamson and Musgrove's English Dramatic Company will make its first appearance here, and will open with The Sign of the Cross. Concerning the play itself we have already given our readers all necessary information, but it may be mentioned that Messrs Williamson and Musgrove have spent .£2OOO in staging it as a realistic representation of what may be supposed to have happened to the early Christians at Rome during the reign of Nero. For Friday evening next the management has issued invitations to the clergy of all denominations to witness the play, and the presentation of each clergyman's card will ensure admission. Messrs Williamson and Musgrove's representatives have erected punkahs in the dress circle, and these will greatly add to the comfort of all by distributing cool air not only in the circle, but all over the house. The ladies' cloak room has been moved to the top of the first flight of stairs, the big empty room thero having been divided into two parts, one for ladies, the other for gentlemen. Coaches, buses and trams to all suburbs, Papanui and New Brighton, will await the close of the performance every , evening, and the Sumner tram will wait* on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday ..fivenings.'
