•— : [Per Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Jan. 10. i Captain Hepworth, ot the Aorangi, denies I the statement that the Aorangi on her 1 last voyage was one firem&u and six trim- i meis short. He says that on_ fireman and t one trimmer deserted immediately before t the departuie of the ship, and that one I fresh man was engaged, so that she was i only one short.' The captain points out I that he has lately been carrying three 1 trimmers in excess of the number carried I on the voyage to England, which they were accustomed to look upon as the complement. Private Turner, of the City Rifles, won the Champion Belt of the Wellington Volunteer Association. Owing principally to the wind, the shooting was not remarkable. A. Ballinger was second,. Hawthorne fourteenth. The police raided the hotels yesterday morning, afterndbn ancl night, and a num*ber of informations will be laid.
