VISCOUNT HAMPDEN.
» [Per Press association.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 30. Viscount Hampden, Governor of New South Wales, and party remain here till Monday, when a start will be made for Lake Wakatipu. The party will leave the Bluff by. the Talune on Jan. 11. In the course of conversation, Viscount Hampden said he believed that if better accommodation were provided, and reasonable charges were made, thousands of tourists would bo tempted to visit the thermal springs district of the North Island. Innkeepers .complained that with the present charges they could not make ends meet. Failing the licensing of houses in the King Country, he thinks it would be desirable, to encourage tourist traffic, that the Government should either subsidise innkeepers or else themselves "run" accommodation houses.
