Scientific— Mr Geo.' Hogben, headmaster of the Timaru High School, has started for Sydney to attend the ineetino- of the Asssociation for the Advancement of Science. Mr Hogben is secretary to the I Seismological Committee of the Association. Mr G. Gray, lecturer on chemistry at the Agricultural College, Lincoln, left yesterday to attend the annual meeting of the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science, which is to be held at Sydney He will represent the Canterbury Philosophical Institute at the meeting. The Cracker Nuisance. — The police have received instructions to arrest any boys or other persons letting off crackers or nreworks of any description in the streets to-night; and a number of constables m plain clothes have been told off for the purpose of preventing the " cracker ' nuisance." ■ I
