New South Wales were soon disposed of, the innings dosing for 263. Kelly was unable to bat. Trumble took two wickets for 74, Koche one for 57, Trott four for 44, Bruce two for 40. The Victorians in their second innings scored IS4. Trott 92 and Bruce 21 were the principal scorers. Trott collapsed owing to the heat. Mills and Labatt failed to make any stand ; the latter, in the second over, poking up a ball to short leg, and A. Ridley, running across from slip, made a remarkably fine catch. Neill and Wright were soon disposed of, and with their dismissal any chance of Auckland's winning the match was gone. Pabst, contrary to his doctor's orders, came in to bat, but wa3 too unwell to feel at home with the bowling. A fine catch by Cobcroft disposed of Lawson, and the innings closed for 21S runs, leaving Canterbury an easy winner by 125 runs. Reese and Pearce bowled splendidly, and were fairly well backed up by the field. The Canterbury team will leave for New Plymouth immediately on the arrival of the mail boat from San Francisco.
