! THE COMMISSION- OF ENQUIRY. [Per Press Association^ AUCKLAND, Nov. 11. The Police Force Commission of Enquiry commenced sitting in Auckland to-day, Mr Kenny, S.M., presiding. After consultation it was decided that the proceedings should be open to the Press. The only case to be enquired into in Auckland is that of Inspector Emerson, of Hawke's Bay, against whom a certain charge has been laid. Those present at the enquiry were Inspector Emerson and his counsel, Mr J. A. Tole, Mr C. E. Button (who appeared for the Prohibition Party), Mr Haselden (representing the Auckland Prohibition League), and two witnesses (Mr William Cooper, barrister, formerly magistrate at Samoa, and Mr Ad&in Henderson, shipbuilder. Mr Kenny said that . written statements had been made by the captain and steward of the steamer Dingadee regarding Inspector Emerson. He would read these statements, which would enable both sides to consider the position better, and he would then proceed to take evidenep to-morrow. The inquiry was adjourned till to-morrow morning. The witnesses "withdrew, and 'Mr Kenny then read the statements privately to counsel for the respective parties.
